Director of Youth Ministry St. Peter Catholic Church in Kirkwood, Missouri Archdiocese of Saint Louis
Role Summary
The Director of Youth Ministry serves the mission of St. Peter Parish by forming young disciples of Jesus Christ through a vibrant youth program.
The role is responsible for building a thriving and sustainable youth program that leverages the 2,300 families of St. Peter and the more than 850 students enrolled in the parish school and PSR.
The role serves in collaboration with the parish’s leadership staff and reports directly to the Associate Pastor, Fr. Charlie Archer.
Key Responsibilities
Establish strong and productive working relationships with a Core Team of volunteers (typically parents, young adults) and lead this team in the creation and implementation of a strategic plan to increase participation in, and commitment to, the parish youth program; own the ongoing recruitment and formation of these volunteers.
Recruit middle school students (parish school and PSR) into the youth program and accompany parish teens (grades 9-12) in their faith formation.
Engage regularly with the youth of the parish to foster familiarity, trust, relationships and integration into the youth ministry program.
Establish effective lines of communication between the ministry and parents ensuring awareness of the program, its strategic initiatives, and ongoing activity.
Serve as the parish liaison with archdiocesan offices for all major youth events (i.e., Steubenville, etc.).
Own parish leadership in the planning and execution of parish-driven events (i.e., annual Luke 18 Confirmation Retreat, Fall / Spring Retreats for high school teens, etc.)
Network with other Youth Ministry leaders regularly for awareness of their initiatives and how they might further drive success at St. Peter.
Collaborate with the Business Manager to develop and prudently manage an annual budget.
Qualifications
A deep love for Jesus Christ that is fostered through regular habits of prayer and full engagement in the sacramental life of the Church.
Prior relevant youth ministry leadership experience (preferably 3 years) within a parish or similar Catholic environment.
Demonstrated prior success in developing faith-enhancing events / opportunities for youth.
Demonstrated prior success in self-direction and program ownership and the desire to want to work this way in this role.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and public speaking with audiences ranging from middle school through adults.
Competency in utilizing social media platforms, especially Instagram, to engage teens.
Authentic and engaging, skilled at building meaningful relationships.
Familiarity with FOCUS, NET, and/or Life Teen is desired, but not required.
Work Environment The Director of Youth Ministry is a full-time position in a normal office environment (parish-dedicated office and youth meeting space). This role will require flexibility of time as evening and weekend work-related activities will be necessary for success (i.e., meetings, retreats, conferences, etc.).
