If Advent is like the nighttime, these last days are like the hours before dawn. All nature is waiting for the sunrise. If Advent is like a woman’s pregnancy, now the baby is kicking in her womb.Soon the child will be born.
These final days of Advent provide us the origin of the verses to that familiar Advent hymn, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.”We call them the “O Antiphons,” for they are sung at vespers each evening before and after the Canticle of Mary. They each speak of a title for Christ and convey beautiful scriptural images of the God who comes to us.
Join us beginning on Wednesday, December 17, and continuing to Tuesday, December 23, as we pray Evening Prayer in the church each night at 6:00 p.m. Or, use the resources on this page to pray with us virtually, using recordings which feature different voices from across our faith community.
